The Estonian Medical Students Association has developed the campaign “Oled meile oluline” (You Matter to Us)!

You Matter to Us will take place on social networks, mostly Facebook and Instagram. We wish for organizations across Estonia to, between 14th and 20th May, add the campaign logo to their Facebook profile photo and write a short explanatory caption. Further information on how to do that will follow.

IDAHOT Report 2016: Estonia

The American Embassy of Estonia this year helped mark IDAHOT 2016 with a public film screening held at their site in Tallinn. The event was free to the public and was held to support the local LGBT community.

Local LGBTI communities in Estonia came together for a discussion event in the city of Tartu and a film screening in the capital, Tallinn, in commemoration of the IDAHOT 2014.

Tartu discussion event

In Estonia’s second city, Tartu, local LGBTI communities organised a discussion event under the theme/question “How can gays in Tartu hope to be happy?”. Organisers invited city residents to discuss how to move toward the fulfillment of a positive vision for sexual minorities, as well as their families, and same sex partners.

The event was organised by Eesti LGBT Ühing (Estonian LGBT Association), in collaboration with Human, Too, and held at the Genialistide Klubi nightclub.

Tallinn film screening

In Tallin, local groups came together for a film screening to celebrate IDAHO Day, on May 16th, at OMA Centre. The movie was “The Perfect Family”, which talks about a family with a lesbian daughter – the film highlights what happens when a Mother is challenged to choose between her ingrained belief systems and her family.

The event was organised by the groups OMA Keskus as well as Eesti LGBT Ühing (Estonian LGBT Association) and Gendy.

In the capital Tillinn, different LGBT groups hosted an evening of theatre featuring the play The Box. The play dramatises different experiences about what it means to be a minority, and a discussion session with the authors and actors followed afterwards. In Estonia’s second city Tartu, two LGBT associations teamed up to create a discussion event on the topic of sexual minorities in Estonia. Participants shared their experiences and opinions about LGBT people, and a theatre improvisation group also attended and performed, in an interactive evening of events.

Estonian LGBT Association to hold theatre performance to mark IDAHO 2013

Estonian LGBT Association is planning to bring the topic of sexual minorities in Estonia to discussions on IDAHO. Participants can contribute by sharing their the experiences and opinions regarding to lesbians, gays, bisexuals and transgender people in Estonian society.

The organizers invited a school theatre group to Tallinn to perform their play “In a Box” which tells a story of a person who belongs to a minority group. The “box” is about the ideas and beliefs that have shaped his world, including the things he is and is not allowed to do and think. There will be a discussion with the author and actors after the play.
