Different LGBT organizations grouped under the Guatemalan LGBTI Federation will carry out multiple activities in commemoration of the Day, among which the 6th Walk Against Homophobia stands out.

As part of the event games will be held in Mexico, Belize, Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras and Nicaragua to promote IDAHOT 2015. As well as raising awareness for the day, organisers hope that the events will help combat stereotypes about LGBTI people held in these countries.

As well as these events Didesex will hope to further combat stereotypes by sharing profiles of individuals involved through their social media in the week following May 17th. Messages and images will also be shared (in Spanish) using the hashtag #deportevshomofobia.

In Guatemala City for the fourth consecutive year the now-traditional Walk Against Homophobia was held with the support of many organizations, and hundreds of young people that participated.

Actions in Guatemala for the International Day Against Homophobia and Transphobia 2014 included a March in the capital, Guatemala City, a social media campaign calling for a Guatemala Without Homophobia, and a new LGBT cultural festival – launched on Saturday, May 17.

On Saturday May 17th the Third March Against Homophobia and Transphobia took place in Guatemala city. It ran from the city Cathedral and ended with a public kiss-in under the slogan “A kiss for love, a kiss for equality”.

“For Equality and Respect for our Rights” – LGBT Communities Come Together in Guatemala City for IDAHOT 2014.

Hundreds of people attended the actions, which were designed to promote community visibility, and to argue for the extension of Article 202 of the Criminal Code of Guatemala, to explicitly include sexual orientation and gender identity discrimination. This would mean equal protections for LGBT citizens in a variety of civil and social areas.

On social media, activists also organised a viral campaign using the hashtag #ReaccionaGuatemalaSinHomofobia, which was organised by local groups to call for a Guatemala Without Homophobia.
