				<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Peru was again host to various events organized by civil society organizations to commemorate the May 17th, International Day Against Homophobia, Transphobia and Biphobia. The presentation of a report on violence against LGBT people, artistic activities and performances took place during a whole week of events.</p>
<p>The Peruvian LGBT Network and the Center for the Promotion and Defense of Sexual and Reproductive Rights (Promsex), made a presentation of the ANNUAL REPORT ON HUMAN RIGHTS LGBT 2014-2015 and the Annual 2015 Awards.</p>
<p>The Civil Association Tsanwa Peru launched for the month of May a campaign on social networks under the slogan &#8220;MONTH OF THE FIGHT AGAINST Homophobia&#8221;. As part of the campaign, several videos were shot with popular figures from Peru to support the LGBTIQ community against violence. <p>Meanwhile the CHERL (Homosexual Community of Hope for the Loreto region) organization did various activities throughout May as part of the activities commemorating IDAHOT under the 7th campaign &#8220;Loretanos Against Homophobia&#8221;.</p>

<h4>Peru is a country with major unresolved issues over the legal and social recognition of the human rights of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender communities. However, the visibility and organisation of LGBT activism has grown significantly recently, as was made evident in events for the IDAHOT 2014 &#8211; with various, diverse events held across the country.</h4>
<p>The Christian Community Ecumenical and Inclusive El Camino held a vigil and global prayer event for the victims of homophobia and transphobia. &#8220;We understand that God is for everyone&#8230; in this sense we believe that no person should suffer for having a sexual orientation and/or identity other than straight&#8221;, declared the representative of organization.</p>
<p>The Peruvian LGBT Network and Director of the Center for the Promotion and Defense of Sexual and Reproductive Rights (Promsex) presentated their ANNUAL REPORT ON HUMAN RIGHTS LGBT 2013-2014. The launch of the report took place at the Convention Center of the Medical College of Peru on Friday, May 16.</p>
<p>Meanwhile, the organizations Homosexual Movement of Lima and the Peruvian Network of Masculinities in Peru performed around May 17, a workshop for friends of LGBT people and a bike ride for equality. It was held on May 18 to show their support for Equality and for rejection of any form of discrimination based on sexual orientation or gender identity.</p>

<p>The CHER organization of Peru made ​​the launched a new media campaign at the Loreto region. On the 18, 19 and 20 of May they conducted an artistic action in major urban squares and in the commercial center of the city, with an artistic rendering of 7 people with the colors of the LGBT pride flag. Finally, to close their IDAHOT actions, on May 21st, they held a press conference at a public university with guests speaking on strategies in schools to prevent homophobia.</p>
<p>The organization It Gets Better (Todo Mejora Peru) organised a video premiere, in a major event which featured the participation of the ambassadors of Spain, France, United Kingdom and the Netherlands. On the group&#8217;s online platforms they also conducted a workshop for LGBT people entitled &#8220;Homophobia: How to neutralize its impact on our lives&#8221;. You can watch the video here:</p>

<p>Finally the organization of Lima Plural Peru held an academic event on May 8 at the Cultural and Academic Center UPCH in the city of Lima. The point of it was to analyze the treatment given to victims of racism, gender oppression and LGBT violence and hatred in Peru, through the media: press, radio, TV and digital.</p>
<p>Questions were asked such as &#8220;Are appropriate terms used and are they non-discriminatory?&#8221;; &#8220;How is the issue of civil unions addressed?&#8221;; &#8220;What is the focus on racism and gender like&#8221;?</p>
<p>They also created a space in which people could discuss the role of the media in order to advance greater social inclusion, with full rights of persons belonging to sexual minorities and of all.</p>

<p align="LEFT">Durante el 2012 se reportaron siete asesinatos y cientos de ataques físicos contra personas LGTB en el país, según el Informe Anual sobre Derechos Humanos de Personas Trans, Lesbianas, Gays y Bisexuales en el Perú 2012, presentado en el marco del Día Mundial contra la Homofobia y la Transfobia.</p>

<h4><strong>LGBT activists demonstrate in front of the Ministry of Justice on May 17</strong></h4>
<p>In Lima 50 LGBT activists gathered outside the headquarters of the Ministry of Justice in Miraflores to protest their exclusion from the National Human Rights Plan. During the protest they delivered to the Ministry table, over 1,500 letters and 1,200 signatures collected before the announcement that LGBT rights would not be included in the plan.</p>
<p><strong>PROMSEX submitted its report on hate crimes in Peru</strong></p>
<p>During 2012 seven murders were reported and hundreds of physical attacks against LGBT people in the country, according to the Annual Report on Human Rights Transgender, Lesbian, Gay and Bisexual in Peru 2012, presented at the World Day Against Homophobia and Transphobia for May 17, 2013.</p>

				<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p><a id="FALINK_2_0_1" href="https://www.dayagainsthomophobia.org/IDAHO-REPORT-2012-PERU,1706#">annual report</a>focused on LGBT human rights cases in 2011. The report followed the enforcement of the Peruvian government’s commitments to the Yogyakarta Principles.</p>
<p>It included a denouncement of the so-called “curative therapies” promoted by some clinics and religious centers, which have the support of some Peruvian universities.</p>
<p>Activists also held a movie festival, a forum on “LGBT Health and Human Rights”, a bike rally and urban interventions in Lima, Iquitos and San Martin in the Amazonian part of Peru. A photo contest and lectures in universities were also held in the northern region.</p>
<p>The IDAHO Lesson was also taught, in which it was hoped would be the beginning of a continuous action to promote a better understanding of sexual orientation and gender identity among teachers and education students, and to encourage action to recognize, prevent and redress homo/transphobic violence.</p>
<p>A seminar on “Sexuality, Diversity and Citizenship in Clinical Practice” was also held to provide health professionals with information about sexuality and sexual diversity and gender identity that is not currently covered in <a id="FALINK_3_0_2" href="https://www.dayagainsthomophobia.org/IDAHO-REPORT-2012-PERU,1706#">vocational training</a> curricula of vocational training for use in clinical practice.</p>
<p>Councillors presented a motion before the Metropolitan Council of Lima to mark May 17 each year as Lima Day Against Discrimination Based on Sexual Orientation and Gender Identity. The motion was signed by the majority of councillors present at the meeting. The purpose of this initiative is to raise awareness about homo/lesbo/transphobia.</p>
