Taipei, May 10 (CNA) More than 100 Taiwanese celebrities, including pop divas A Mei (張惠妹) and Jolin Tsai (蔡依林), have joined an international campaign against homophobia and transphobia in support of same-sex marriage.

A total of 115 entertainers recently posed individually for photos holding rainbow placards to show their support for the cause.

The photos will be part of a special exhibition to mark the International Day against Homophobia, Transphobia and Biphobia on May 17, the organizer, the Taiwan Alliance to Promote Civil Partnership Rights (TAPCPR), said on Wednesday.

Among the celebrities who participated in the photo display project were four winners of Golden Horse Awards (Taiwan’s Oscars), 28 winners of Golden Bell Awards (Taiwan’s Emmys), and 60 winners of Golden Melody Awards (Taiwan’s Grammys), the TAPCPR said.

The special exhibition, titled “See Through,” will open Thursday at Huashan 1914 Creative Park in Taipei.

During its eight-day run, the exhibition will also display cultural and historic relics and documents related to the campaign for marriage equality in Taiwan as well as works by local artists in support of the campaign, the organizer said.

In addition, a drawing by Jolin Tsai for the CD cover of the single “We Are One,” sung jointly by eight singers from Taiwan, Singapore, Hong Kong and China, including A Mei and Sandy Lam (林憶蓮), will be auctioned during the show.

The International Day against Homophobia, Transphobia and Biphobia, held on May 17 every year, gives people the opportunity to get together and reach out to one another.

The group Lobby Alliance for LGBT Human Rights marked the International Day Against Homophobia and Transphobia 2014, by conducting a protest to pressure Taiwan’s government to approve a bill legalizing same-sex marriage.

The bill has been stalled in the Legislature since last October, and its progress constitutes one of the major priorities of local activists in the country at the moment. The protest also served to remember the victims of hate crimes, and was marked by its creativity and impact – with various photos of the event shared widely on social media, including internationally.

Local activists installed 100 tombstones which were made of cardboard – each engraved with the names of people who had lost their lives due to hatred against LGBTI people, either through being killed or through committing suicide. The protest took place in Ketagalan Boulevard, one of the main avenues in the capital, which leads to Taiwan’s Presidential Building.

The Lobby Alliance for LGBT Human Rights has planned an event on May 17 to remember all the victims of Homophobia and Transphobia with the demonstration ‘From the Grave to the World’.

In order to remember and honour, they will stand in front of the Presidential Hall in Taipei city with 100 tombstones, each engraved with the somber and horrifying truth of our wrongful deaths: Killed by Homophobia and and Transphobia.
This event is aims to honour the victims and towards a world free from fear and is not meant to call out for revenge.

The Tomb will be on Ketagalan Boulevard on May 17th from 10AM to 6PM

Their mission is:
1. To promote Taiwan to become the first Asian country to legalize gay marriages
2. To promote gay-friendly corporations in our society
3. To encourage gay people to come out with courage and dignity.

The Lobby Alliance for LGBT Human Rights is a group of young advocators for the Rights of LGBT. They are also trying to identify and reach out to parliament members who have been influenced by conservative views and are not supporting LGBT Rights yet.

Human Rights are a true universal value and dignity of human nature without any disputes. Although the opinion polls cannot be fulfilled as an obligation, Taiwan has surpassed many other countries in the world with more than half of Taiwanese population supporting gay marriage. Taiwan is a place that full of hopes and prosperous futures. We truly believe that the historical moment to achieve the Taiwan LGBT Rights will be arrived soon. As long as we gather together with all the workers, citizens, and friends to stand up for our basic Human Rights, we will let Taiwan Parliament to consider this subject seriously and face this crucial step toward the Human Rights in the 21st century, and let the rainbow always be at Taiwan horizon.
