In commemoration of the IDAHOT 2014, the US Embassy in the capital, Ljubljana, invited members of local LGBTI communities to a flag unfurling ceremony.

A statement from the Embassy read: “To mark International Day Against Homophobia and Transphobia (IDAHO) and demonstrate support for LGBT rights as human rights, Ambassador Mussomeli invited several representatives from the LGBT NGO community to unfurl a rainbow flag from the Embassy’s balcony on May 16. IDAHO is celebrated every May 17 to mark the day in 1990 when the World Health Organization removed homosexuality from its International Classification of Diseases.”
